“Given that the Iranian government is seriously divided, which is no surprise, and at the request of Pakistan Field Marshal Asim Munir and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, we have been asked to wait to attack Iran until their leaders and representatives present a unified proposal,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added that he ordered the US military to continue the blockade of Iranian ports.
It is not yet clear when the negotiations will take place in Pakistan’s Islamabad. Both American Vice President JD Vance and the Iranian delegation postponed the trip.
The truce came into effect on April 8 and was supposed to expire this week, but the two sides did not agree on its exact end. Tehran claimed that it should expire on the night of Wednesday, while Donald Trump claimed that it should expire on the night of Thursday.
