Vjosa Osmani: NATO not only force but also a symbol of peace and hope

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has been honored today in Ljubljana with the “Women for Peace and Security” award by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

In a solemn ceremony, Osman accepted the award on behalf of the people of Kosovo and especially the women of the country, which, as she pointed out, “have led peaceful resistance, fought for freedom and built peace with tremendous compassion, determination and courage.”

In her speech to the Assembly delegates, President Osmani described the award as a special honor, linking it to Kosovo’s journey to freedom and peace.

“This award has great significance, because Kosovo’s path to freedom and peace is built together by its men and wives.

Osman recalled the key role of women during the period of peace resistance in the 90s, during the Kosovo war and in the process of building post -liberation institutions.

I accept this award on behalf of Kosovo women – mothers and daughters who still expect justice for their missing loved ones, and young girls who lead vision for a Kosovo where equality is not a distant dream, but a daily effort, ” She said, touching the hearts of those present.

Reflecting on the history of Kosovo, the president recalled the moment when NATO planes flew for the first time on Kosovo cities in 1999.

“It was the sound of hope that was returning, the most powerful symbol of peace. Then we learned an eternal truth: even small nations can hold the greatest truths of the world, that freedom does not know size and courage,” Osmani said, expressing deep gratitude for NATO’s crucial role in the liberation and preservation of peace.

It described NATO not only as a fortress of force, but as a symbol of peace and a strength for good, showing what nations can achieve when uniting to protect democratic values. “NATO has been and remains a living example of what can be achieved when nations unite to defend freedom and justice,” she added.
