Local elections in Kosovo- EU Appeal for Quick Certification of Results from the First Round

The European Union has expressed its gratitude and support for the peaceful, competitive and comprehensive development of the first round of local elections in Kosovo.

In an official statement, an EU spokesman assessed the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of widespread communities and free, fair and comprehensive media coverage, which, according to him, have contributed to a transparent and democratic process.

In his statement, the EU spokesman stated that “.. For those municipalities where mayors were elected in the first round, we call for a certification and rapid implementation of election results through regular local government transitions. For other municipalities, where the Bathroom elections will be held, we call for a peace.” RTK.

For communes where mayors were elected in the first round, the EU has called for a quick certification of results and a smooth transition of local government.

For the municipalities where a second round of elections (runoff) will be needed to determine the mayors, planned to take place on November 9, the EU has called for the process to continue to be just as peaceful, competitive and inclusive.

Meanwhile, according to the Kosovo Election Commission, the voting participation resulted in 39 percent, from 2,069,098 citizens with the right to vote, while about 44 thousand voters were from the diaspora.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has won 3 municipalities in the first round (Skenderaj, Ferizaj and Hani i Elezit) and heads in 4 municipalities going to the runoff: Prizren, Kacanik, Vushtrri and South Mitrovica.

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has won 2 municipalities (Istog and Lipjan) but heads 6 of the other municipalities that go to the runoff: Pristina, Peja, Junik, Dragash, Viti and Obiliq.
