“Trialog” on RTSH, Preç Zogaj analyzes the stalemate in Kosovo: Kurti fell into the trap of success, wasted the chance with Vjosa Osman

The burden of the majority and the “trap” of elections

According to Zogaj, although the opposition is not without responsibility in crisis situations, there cannot be an equalization of blame between it and the force that leads the government. He argued that the prime minister should be the actor most interested in avoiding institutional anarchy, bringing to attention the practice of politics in Albania, where majorities have sought agreements with the opposition when they did not have sufficient numbers.

Analyzing the approach of the head of the government of Kosovo, the analyst emphasized:

“There is responsibility and the opposition and this is not excluded. But complicity is not equal, since the weight of the greatest responsibility rests with the one who has the majority. Kurti is not a beginner, he is already known. I believe that he has fallen into the trap of the success of the last elections, where he achieved a very good result. He believes that maybe he can achieve the majority he achieved for the government as well for the president.”

For Zogaj, the opposition in Kosovo has been one “host role” and would have seriously considered a true willingness to cooperate on the part of the prime minister.

The role of Vjosa Osmani and policies with internationals

Zogaj devoted an important part of his analysis to the figure of Vjosa Osmani, assessing her importance in maintaining Kosovo’s diplomatic balance. He regretted the approach of domestic politics to a figure who, according to him, knew how to build bridges with strategic allies.

“I am surprised that Kosovo wasted a chance. Vjosa Osmani was a very good president. She knew how to fill the holes that Kurti created in international relations, especially with the USA and the EU. There was affirmation from Kosovo’s biggest ally, which is the USA, but it was challenged by a small mentality in Kosovo. A political figure is not easily created, it is not improvised, but it is created. And Osmani created her profile.” finished Zogaj.
