Kosovo is today in state mourning in honor of the life and work of academician Rexhep Qosja, who passed away a day ago at the age of 90.
The acting president, Albulena Haxhiu, has declared this day of national mourning, stressing that this decision represents the respect and gratitude of the state for one of the most important figures of Albanian culture and thought.
According to her, Qosja gave the Albanian culture a rich heritage in knowledge, work and intellectual authority, leaving an indelible mark in literature and scientific studies.
Meanwhile, the burial ceremony of the academician took place in a simple way, in the presence of the closest family circle. The family members have announced that, in accordance with the wishes of the deceased, no public tributes or official reception will be organized.
“The funeral took place in the presence of close family members. With the wishes of the deceased, no reception ceremony will be organized by the family and there will be no participation in institutional organizations”. said one of his relatives.
The death of Rexhep Qosje is considered a great loss for Albanian culture and the academic world.
Academician Rexhep Qosja passed away at the age of 89, while he was taken to his last residence this Thursday (April 23), without an official ceremony or public reception, according to his will.
Rexhep Qosja was considered one of the most important figures of Albanian thought and culture, with numerous contributions to literature and Albanian studies.
