The police are investigating the circumstances of the accident. According to initial information, the man did not cross the pedestrian crossing, but “wandered” along the road.
“The tragic accident took place on Thursday afternoon in Kaplica – the railway station. A truck hit a pedestrian here. The exact causes of the accident are being investigated by Český Krumlov police officers,” said police spokeswoman Lenka Krausová.
All elements of the IZS intervened on the spot, including the helicopter.
“When the rescuers arrived, the man was unconscious, witnesses of the accident performed telephone-assisted resuscitation, which the crew followed up on. The middle-aged man was in a very serious condition. The doctor secured his airway and performed emergency surgery in the chest area with the aim of restoring heart function. The man died despite all efforts,” said the spokesman for the rescuers, Vojtěch Míra.
