“Pahlavi was doused with tomato sauce. Subsequently, the police announced that they had arrested one man. The incident occurred after the exiled politician appeared at a press conference. The police did not release further details. A liquid resembling sauce was visible on Pahlavi’s shoulder and neck,” wrote the Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel.
According to the letter, hundreds of people demonstrated in the center of Berlin – both supporters and opponents of Pahlavi. 800 police officers were deployed to ensure security, but even that could not completely protect the Iranian exiled celebrity.
“Pahlavi was just leaving a press conference during which he criticized the truce between the United States and Iran when the incident occurred,” described the British newspaper The Independent, adding that the son of the Shah of Iran still managed to wave to his supporters and get into the car that drove off.
