Voting centers in the Republic of North Macedonia closed at 19:00, marking the end of the voting process in the second round of the eighth local elections.
This time, citizens in North Macedonia were called to elect new mayors of 32 municipalities, as well as the mayor of the capital, Skopje, along with three polling stations in Shuto Orizare for the election of municipal councilors.
According to the announcement of the State Election Commission (SEC), over 1 million voters had the right to vote in this round, where the race was particularly tight in urban municipalities such as Skopje, Tetova and Struga. Voter turnout was estimated at 46-50 percent, in line with the first round held on October 19.
After the closing of the polling stations, the commissioners across the country have started the vote counting procedures.
The first preliminary results are expected to be published after midnight, while the final ones may come out within the next 24-48 hours, depending on the volume of ballots.
The SEC has explained that the counting is being carried out under full supervision and high transparency, to guarantee the integrity of the process.
The second round took place in 32 municipalities where no candidate achieved an absolute majority in the first round, as well as in the city of Skopje.
The full list of them includes: Aerodrom, Bogovina, Bërvenica, Valandovo, Vinica, Dibër, Debarca, Demir Kapija, Karposh, Kičevo, Konçe, Koçan, Krushevo, Kumanovo, Lozovo, Makedonska Kamenica, Makedonski Brod, Mogila, Negotin, Probishtip, Rankovce, Rosoman, Struga, Studeniçan, Tetovo, Center, Ceshinovo-Obleshevo, Čučerševo Sandevë, Shuto Orizare, Dollnen, Dojran, Zrnovce.
In Shuto Orizare, voting was limited only to the election of councilors, as part of the mandate filling process.
