The head of the center went to the bank last week to settle current payments on the center’s classic and therefore long-term account. Machař is used to the fact that 4,000 to 5,000 crowns arrive weekly from donors to this account. He did not expect any large sums in the account, because a special account was created on the Znesnáze website for the restoration of the center, and 2.2 million crowns have already been used up. But most of the donors probably did not use the special account out of mistrust and sent it to the regular account, which he had no idea.
“And the lady at the bank suddenly asks me: ‘Do you even know how much money you have there?’ When she told me, I was unable to understand. She had to write it on a piece of paper. I still don’t get it. These millions have arrived since the fire that happened on Thursday, May 7,” Machař told Novinkám.
Annually, in the Helping animals center in Brno-Slatín, which he founded in 1991, he treats over 1,400 injured mammals, birds and reptiles from the wild, most of which are then released back into the wild. It must be said that a very spartan way of life was lived in the center; without hot water, comfortable beds, instead of going to the toilet you used to go to the bucket.
“I admit that we led more of a lumberjack life here, but if we didn’t take care of the animals, no one else would,” said Machař. According to him, not even a crown will go to waste.
First of all, he will voluntarily return half a million subsidy to the network of rescue stations so that some other station in the Czech Republic will receive it. With the donations, he wants to restore the center in Brno-Slatin, and on the other side of Brno, somewhere near the Moravian Karst, he wants to create a detached center of the center, where the already recovered animals will be released into nature.
“A huge thank you to everyone. It can be seen that social networks are not only evil and when there is a problem, we can help each other. Watch our videos and we will show you in detail how we handle the money,” said Macař.
