The Croatian coast will be hit by downpours. There is a threat of flash floods

Cold air from the north is flowing over the warming Mediterranean Sea this week, where it collides with warm air from the south. At a significant temperature interface, suitable conditions for the formation of heavy precipitation are created.

In addition, the situation will be supported by a deepening depression over northern Italy, which will advance over the Balkans to the east by the end of the week. Especially on the west coast of the peninsula, strong storms with heavy rainfall will form from Thursday to Saturday.

The highest precipitation totals are expected in coastal areas due to the windward effect of the Dinaric Alps. Up to 150 millimeters may fall locally by the end of the week. Where rain falls within a short period of time, dangerous flash floods can occur.

In addition to heavy rain, storms will also be accompanied by hail and wind gusts over 100 km/h. Croatian meteorologists have issued a warning of up to the second degree and warn of damage and traffic complications. In addition, strong storms have been affecting the area since the beginning of the week.

As the pressure moves downward, intense precipitation will spread to other parts of the Balkan Peninsula. Especially in the Carpathian region, precipitation totals can reach up to around 100 millimeters.

Moravia and Silesia will also significantly feel the influence of the low pressure, where heavy rains are expected at the weekend. However, their exact location and quantity are still uncertain, as they will depend on the path of the pressure below. Meteorologists will therefore further refine the forecast.
