The Assembly of Kosovo was constituted after the election of the vice-presidents, while the position belonging to the Democratic Party of Kosovo remained unfilled due to the absence of deputies of this party in the constitutive session.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, after the end of the voting, declared that the 11th legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo is already considered constituted. She said that, despite calls for participation, the PDK was not present in the hall.
In this session, Kujtim Shala was elected deputy speaker of the Assembly from the ranks of the Democratic League of Kosovo with 75 votes in favor. From the Serbian community, Tanja Vujović was elected vice-president with 62 votes in favor, six against and three abstentions.
While Emilija Rexhepi was elected vice-president from among the non-majority non-Serb communities, with 70 votes in favor and seven abstentions.
With the end of voting, Haxhiu officially confirmed the constitution of the Assembly and informed the deputies that the process for the formation of parliamentary groups will continue.
The PDK had previously announced that it would not participate in the continuation of the session and had temporarily withdrawn the candidacy of Vlora Çitaku for vice-president, pending a decision of the Constitutional Court.
Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said after the constitution that the second post of vice president belongs to the PDK and that the LVV is ready to support Vlora Çitak as soon as this party returns to the session and proposes it.
“It was good that the Assembly was constituted”, said Kurti. stressing that Çitak’s candidacy will be voted on by the LVV at the moment the PDK decides to participate in the process.
Meanwhile, the acting Minister of Finance and LVV deputy, Hekuran Murati, described the constitution of the Assembly as a step forward for the functionalization of the institutions.
Murati criticized the PDK for not participating in the session, arguing that this party had repeatedly requested the constitution of the Assembly, but was not present on the day when the process was completed.
According to him, the LVV decided to vote for the candidates of other parties for vice-presidents in order not to allow further blocking of institutions and the country not to go to elections again.
After Kujtim Shala’s vote, Murati said that the LVV expects the LDK to reflect on the issue of the election of the president.
“After today’s step on our part, to vote for their vice-president, we consider that there will be reflection on the part of the individual deputies of the Democratic League of Kosovo”, said Murati.
