The best ski areas in the Czech Republic: Tips for skiing

Černá hora and Pec pod Sněžkou

Black Mountain is a winter sports center located in the eastern part of the Krkonoše mountains in the Janské potok valley below Černá hora, about 15 kilometers from Trutnov. The area is part of the largest ski resort in our country (SkiResort Černá hora-Pec connects a total of 6 areas), from which you can take the ski bus to Peca pod Sněžkou or Svoboda nad Úpou. You can park in three parking lots near the complex, the parking fee costs 100 to 130 crowns for one day.

Skiing in Černá hora offers an eight-seater cabin lift and a heated six-seater lift. The Černohorský area offers 18 slopes with a total length of 17.5 kilometers, the longest tracks are almost three kilometers long. In the complex there is also the longest illuminated slope Protěž, 1.6 kilometers long, suitable for evening skiing.

In the area there are two places intended directly for children with a children’s corner. There is a moving carpet and children’s lifts in the “LIVE” park. There is also a free, four-kilometer Černá Hora sledding trail leading from the top of Černá Hora.

Ski area Pec pod Sněžkou offers a view of Sněžka, the highest Czech mountain. In the complex you will find 19 slopes with a total length of 14 kilometers. Lifts and two cable cars will take you to the hills. You can park in three parking lots, the cheapest daily parking is for 250 crowns.

Apart from the classic slopes, there is a Funline with banked turns, off-road waves and a tunnel. You will also find a giant slalom course with a timer or a radar for measuring speed. For evening skiing, you can go to the Javor slope. For cross-country skiers, the large (12 km) and small (4 km) Černá hora circuits are regularly groomed. Krkonoše highway routes are also available.

Spindleruv Mlyn

The ski resort in Špindlerův Mlýn won the award for the best resort of 2021. It is divided into the parts Svatý Petr, Medvědín, Horní Mísečky, Labská and Hromovka. There are 17 lifts and cable cars, 27 kilometers of slopes in the entire ski area complex. There are more parking options: two parking lots are at the Hromovka hill, as well as the Bedřichov, Medvědín and Horní Mísečky parking lots.

Really everyone can choose from the offer of slopes. Saint Peter is the most sought-after part of the entire area, where long, wide blue slopes await skiers, but also red or one racing black for very good skiers. A snow park with a U-ramp is built every year for lovers of freestyle riding.

It is located in the northwestern part of Špindlerův Mlýn Medvedín. It is located on the mountain of the same name, which is also the highest point of Špindlerův Mlýn. Under the peak of Medvědín, at the exit station of the cable car, you can take a picture at a beautiful photo point with the Krkonoše panorama behind you. You will find blue and red slopes here.

The area is most suitable for beginners and families with small children Upper Misečky. It offers the mildest slopes and three ski lifts.

Evening skiing is on a 1540 meter long slope Thunderstorm. 28.-29. January 2023, the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup was held in Špindlerův Mlýn. Over 91 kilometers of different tracks are available for cross-country skiers during the season.

Especially popular with families with children and beginner skiers is the red slope in Elbe. The upper part of the slope leading through the forest has a more sporty character, the lower part, on the other hand, leads along sunny slopes. A three-seater cable car leads to the top of the hill.

Harrachov – Devil’s Mountain

Krkonoše ski resort Harrachov offers excellent skiing opportunities in the Giant Mountains. The best place to park is the parking lot right next to the cable car in the center. It is located approximately one hundred meters from the cable car.

The ski area is divided into three separate ski areas Čertova hora, Zákoutí and Amálka. Čertova hora offers a total of four slopes with a total length of 6.5 km. Practically the entire track surface is equipped with artificial snow. Transportation to the top of Čertovy hory is provided by cable cars and lifts.

Skiareál Zákoutí is more of a ski school than a full-fledged ski resort, but it still has a lot to offer. The lesson is mainly intended for children, but the whole family can sign up. You can ski here on four slopes, each track is also equipped with its own lift and complete artificial snowmaking. The corner also offers evening skiing. You can also experience night skiing on the 400-meter-long Amálka slope. There is also a ski school and technical snow on Amálka.

For cross-country skiers, there are over 100 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails of varying difficulty in the vicinity of Harrachov.

Lower Moravia

The Dolní Morava mountain resort offers slopes with a total length of over ten kilometers. There are more parking options, the price per day is 100 CZK. A free ski bus will take you directly to the slopes in the high season.

The pistes have different degrees of difficulty, from blue, i.e. easy, through red to semi-red and black pistes (the most difficult). Two four-seater cable cars and three lifts will take you to the peaks. The area also includes a children’s ski park.

For lovers of free riding, whether on skis or snowboards, there is a “U Slona” zone in Lower Moravia, where there is a fun trail with two tunnels and waves in the terrain, a cross track with the parameters of European racing tracks and a snow park can also be found here , where even children can play. Night skiing usually takes place four times a week on the Kamila slope.

In the vicinity of Dolní Morava, there are up to 50 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails following the Jesenická highway, the starting point is the Slaměnka hut near the upper station of the Sněžník cable car. From there, groomed trails lead back to Dolní Morava or to the other side of the ridge up to the hill above Starý Město pod Sněžnik.

Lipno

Lipno is a sports area suitable for the whole family. A free parking lot with a capacity of 750 cars and 20 buses is located directly under the campus. You can easily get to the place by train or bus.

In the area you will find 16 slopes with a total length of 13 kilometers. 3 four-seater and one two-seater cable car will take you up the hill. Out of a total of 16 pistes, most are green, i.e. with easy difficulty. Two are medium difficulty in blue, three are red. The roof slope has the highest difficulty, black. The longest Jezerní is 1400 meters long and connects the slopes located on opposite sides of the area. It is ideal for a carving style of driving, suitable for families with children and is usually used for evening skiing every day.

Snowpark Lipno is available for lovers of freestyle skiing or snowboarding. It is a 600-meter long section full of crates, jumps and platforms for an adventure ride. Beginners can practice skiing in Fox park.

Lovers of cross-country skiing will also enjoy themselves. There are 40 km of cross-country tracks that lead through the local landscape.

Bublava – Silver

There is one cable car and five lifts in the Bublava ski area. Parking is free in the immediate vicinity of the lifts and the cable car. There are 7 slopes in the area, two red, two blue, one black and two children’s, moderate tracks. The longest Lesní slope is 1000 meters long, the total length of all slopes is 3.2 kilometers.

The center is ideal for families with children. The Children’s Park, located in the center of the complex, serves children and adult beginners. The 180-meter-long moderate slope is equipped with many game elements. The children’s park is served by a moving ski belt and connected to it by a ski lift.

From the center of Bublava, you can cross-country ski to the “Bublava circuit”, from which you can connect to nearby circuits in Germany. The most famous is the “Kammloipe” route and the circuits around the town of Mühleithen.

A cuneiform

The Klínovec Ski Resort is the largest and most modern ski resort in the Ore Mountains, which offers skiers 31.5 km of pistes. There are five cable cars and eight ski lifts in Klínovec. There is also a snow park in the complex. Families with children will certainly appreciate the children’s lift, which is free. Experienced instructors will take care of the children in the children’s ski park. Parking is free, individual parking lots with a total capacity of 2,000 spaces are located directly at the boarding stations of cable cars and ski lifts.

Since 2018, the Klínovec ski resort has been connected to the neighboring ski resort at Restlessness and with God’s Gift. As part of cross-border cooperation, it is possible to cross the ski bus to the other side of the mountains to the German ski area of ​​Fichtelberg. 50 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails are available for cross-country skiers.

Monínec – skiing near Prague

Skiareál Monínec is located in central Bohemia in the area called Czech Siberia. It is only 80 kilometers from Prague, so it takes a little over an hour to travel. You can park here for free, the capacity is 550 spaces.

The area offers its visitors two red slopes with a total length of 1800 meters. Then a milder slope, a snow park and a Funline track.

Artificial lighting allows skiers to enjoy their favorite evening skiing. Transportation is provided by lifts and a cable car. There are 54 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails in the area.
