Serbian police threw tear gas to distribute anti-government protesters in the city of Novi-Sad, while thousands of people continue to demand early elections.
Friday’s protest was part of the gatherings organized by students in Serbia.
These organizations were driven by the collapse of the concrete shelter at the Novi-Sad railway station in November last year, which left 16 people dead.
Protesters demand from the institutions political and criminal responsibility for this event. They believe there has been corruption in the station’s rebuilding project, while their demands now include calls for early elections.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has dismissed demands for early elections and accuses protesters of being driven by external factors. The Serbian leader said protesters have attempted to threaten Serbia’s stability and security, and take control of university buildings in Novi-SAD.
On Monday, thousands of protesters marched to Belgrade, Novi-Sad and other cities to mark 10 months from the tragedy at the railway station.
