NATO has a plan to defeat Russia in space and the Arctic region

The alliance with the plan came on the sidelines of the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, where the bloc of 13 countries agreed to implement the Northlink initiative. It is expected that the Alliance will use current commercial satellites to create a multinational space communication network in the Arctic region, the Brussels newspaper writes.

Although the North Atlantic Alliance does not operate its own satellites, as Politico reminded, in 2018 it identified space as the fifth dimension of the conflict. Because of this, NATO opened a specialized space command center in Germany at the Ramstein air base. The four remaining dimensions include land, sea, air and information space.

The Arctic region is currently under the control of the Alliance, it is home to countries such as Denmark, Canada and Iceland that have signed Northlink. There are a total of 13 signatories, in addition to countries in the Arctic region, it was also approved by France, Germany and Italy.

However, the Russian Federation also borders the Arctic region, in the far north. In addition, it recently increased its activities in the region and at the same time warned against “disruptive attacks on satellites in the area”.
