Even before the fatal hit to the head, Sinvár suffered an injury to his hand, which was probably caused by shrapnel “from a small rocket or an artillery shell”, according to the newspaper Kugel.
The injury to Sinvár’s hand caused bleeding, which he tried to stop using an electric cable as an improvised tourniquet. “But that couldn’t work in any case,” said the doctor. “It wasn’t strong enough and his forearm was crushed,” he added.
At present, it is not clear who shot Sinvár. It is not even known when exactly the strike occurred or with what weapon.
Sinvár most likely died on Thursday. Israeli Foreign Minister Yisrael Kac informed about his death. It was subsequently confirmed by the terrorist movement Hamas.
“It is a great military and moral success for Israel,” the foreign minister emphasized. He called Sinvár a “mass murderer” and added that his death opens the possibility of a quick return of the kidnapped Israeli hostages from the Gaza Strip. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari added later in the evening that Yahya Sinvár was killed in Rafah and now Israeli forces are searching for his brother Muhammad.
