Shutting down Messenger.com, which operated independently of Facebook, is part of Meta’s cost-cutting plans.
“Beginning in April 2026, the Messenger.com website will no longer be available for messaging. The Messenger desktop application will also be unavailable,” the report said.
The range of 14-16 was stated as the first more accurate end date. April, however, some Messenger accounts on the web were still functioning even at the latest date, so their deactivation and redirection differed from account to account.
What is certain, however, is that after complete shutdown, PC users will no longer log in to the site, if they enter the original address in the search engine, they will be redirected to facebook.com/messages. This will not change much for Facebook users, because the interface at the new address is almost the same as that of Messenger.
For others who do not yet have an account on Facebook, the only option to access the service is the mobile application, PCmag reported earlier.
Anyone who wants to restore their chat history can do so using their PIN.
