The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, declared that the state institutions work at the service of all citizens without distinction, after the inauguration of the new office of the Tax Administration in North Mitrovica.
Answering questions from journalists, including Serbian media, regarding democracy in the north, Kurti emphasized that the country is going through a process of normalization. “We work for all citizens and I am not above the law. The time before our government was not normal. I’m not saying that everything is normal now, but of course everything is getting back to normal“, he said.
He added that the law should not divide citizens, but guarantee equality and justice for everyone, underlining that institutions such as the police and the Tax Administration serve everyone equally and professionally.
Asked if he had a meeting with the mayor of the municipality of North Mitrovica, Kurti said that such a thing has not yet happened, but emphasized that the legitimacy in the northern municipalities stems only from the elections in Kosovo. “In the municipalities north of Ibri, you can become mayor or official, but only through elections in the Republic of Kosovo“, he said, describing the transfer of power as peaceful.
During his stay in the north, Kurti, accompanied by ministers Elbert Krasniqi and Xhelal Sveçla, as well as the mayor of South Mitrovica, visited the Haradinaj family in the neighborhood known as “Three Solitaries”, where a member of the family lost his life in an explosion in 2012.
