The Central Election Commission (CEC) in Kosovo has officially defined the operational and financial framework for the extraordinary elections to be held on June 7. During the meeting held this Friday, the highest electoral institution in the country approved the budget of 10 million and 800 thousand euros, paving the way for intensive technical preparations.
One of the main points of the approved plan is the duration of the election campaign, which will be busy. According to the CEC, the campaign will start on May 28 and will last a total of 10 days and 7 hours, ending before the election silence.
Calendar of election deadlines
To ensure the smooth running of the process, the CEC has drawn up a strict calendar for political subjects and voters. Applications for new parties and citizen initiatives will be accepted from May 2 to 10.
Submission of name lists by certified entities must be done within the period 2 – 12 May. The draw for the ranking of the parties will be held on May 16. The appointment of the members of the Municipal Election Commissions (MEC) will be completed by May 8, while the list of voting centers will be published on May 5.
Diaspora voting and the postal process
The electoral process foresees specific steps for citizens living outside Kosovo, giving them the opportunity to express their will through two forms. Overseas voters must register from May 6 to 17 and postal voting will run from May 25 to June 6.
Physical voting in consulates and embassies will be organized on June 6, from 07:00 to 19:00.
“The CEC has taken all measures to make the process transparent. The publication of the list of voting centers and the possibility of correcting the list of voters (May 6-18) are essential steps for the integrity of these elections,” said the member of the CEC, Alban Krasniqi.
With the approval of this plan, Kosovo officially enters an intensive electoral phase, where the challenge remains the management of the considerable budget and the realization of all technical stages within a record time frame.
