“This is the most absurd situation that Kosovo has had since its liberation in 1999. During these 9 months Mr. Kurti as the mandate to create the new government has shown a political inability to form the government.”
According to him, what PDK had warned for a long time was confirmed yesterday.
” This is the most absurd situation after the declaration of Independence. During these 9 months Mr. Kurti as the mandate to create the new government has shown a political inability to form the government. What we have claimed for a long time was confirmed yesterday that Mr. Kurti did not have the votes in the Assembly to form the government and as a result Kosovo is in a deep political crisis.”
Hoxhaj said that PDK is currently focused on the run-off for the local elections, but then it will observe whether President Vjosa Osmani will re-mandate Albin Kurti or will seek a new mandate from the opposition.
“The political situation is very unclear. The process of whether the Assembly of Kosovo has been constituted or not is also unclear, since the deputies of the Serbian List have sent a complaint to the Constitutional Court.”
Hoxhaj criticized Kurti’s lack of political will to cooperate with the opposition, stressing that, “From February 9, there have been more than 9 months of inability to build the government by Albin Kurti and lack of will to cooperate with the opposition.
He predicted that the country will go to elections within the year or early next year.
“The opposition parties must take stock of what happened in these months. We were convinced that Mr. Kurti attacked the opposition in an aggressive language.
He added that although the opposition parties will compete separately due to different platforms, after the elections they must build the new government.
Hoxhaj emphasized that the citizens did not vote for Kurti to govern alone:
“The citizens of Kosovo did not vote for Mr. Kurti to govern alone, but to govern with another big party in the opposition. If in politics you don’t have the will for dialogue, you don’t have the ability to make agreements and compromises, you are incapable of governing the country.”
He described the current period as a time of total lack of rationality and political incompetence.
“Without a political agreement with the opposition, Kurti cannot do 61 mandates even for the government and no more than 80 mandates to elect the President of the State.”
He ended with a call for reflection and change in the political culture, referring to the end of the mandate of the President of the Republic, Vjosa Osmani.
“The President of the country is not elected with 80 votes without genuine cooperation of the opposition. Therefore, it is necessary to reflect on a new approach to political culture. In this situation that is Kosovo today, only the elections are the only way for a solution and after the elections the cooperation between the political forces is the only political way.”
