Negotiations between the government and the medical unions lasted almost two months, and the doctors will receive a salary increase, as was agreed in the original memorandum.
“In the document, the government undertakes to submit a law to the parliament without delay and in an abbreviated legislative procedure, which will cancel the reduction in the growth of doctors’ salaries,” said Denník N.
The cabinet also undertook to reevaluate the length of specialized education, which is longer in many fields in Slovakia today than in other countries. In the agreement, she undertook to consider the length of study and adjust it to at least the level of the Czech Republic.
The government is also committed to optimizing the financing of hospitals. The state has pledged to conduct operational and personnel audits in state hospitals in 2025. Medical trade unionists will also be part of the group that will perform the audit. The state will also solve the debt relief of state hospitals.
Slovak doctors also filed mass resignations in 2011 during the government of Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency. At that time, thirty Czech military doctors helped in Slovak hospitals. The year before last, the doctors also demanded an increase in salaries and promises of other measures in the healthcare sector from the then government.
