“A Volgo-Balt ship with a load of wheat sank in the Sea of Azov. The crew left the deck and managed to reach the shore of the Kherson region. Nine crew members, citizens of the Russian Federation, were found there,” said Vladimir Saldo, head of the occupied part of the Ukrainian Kherson region. The crew of the vessel numbered 11 people, writes TASS.
The Sea of Azov is located between Russia and the occupied part of Ukraine. The conflict between the two countries has been raging for the fifth year.
From last November, information began to appear about attacks by unmanned vessels or drones on cargo ships in the Black and Mediterranean Seas, mainly on tankers transporting Russian oil. The attacks have been linked to Ukraine, although Kiev has denied being involved in some of them. Some of the attacks were claimed by the Ukrainian secret service SBU, which spoke of strikes on tankers of the Russian shadow fleet.
At the same time, Ukraine accuses Russia of attacks on merchant ships near Ukrainian ports. In response to the attacks on tankers in the Black Sea, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened that Russia would extend its strikes to Ukrainian ports and ships that enter them.
