Prime Minister Edi Rama has conveyed a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Liberation of Kosovo.
In a short post, Rama writes: “Happy 27th anniversary – Liberation Day”.
June 12 marks the 27th anniversary of the liberation of Kosovo, one of the most important dates in the country’s modern history. On June 12, 1999, NATO peacekeeping troops entered Kosovo, ending the war and paving the way for the return of hundreds of thousands of Albanians driven from their homes.
The entry of NATO forces came after the end of the 78-day aerial bombardment campaign against Serbian military and police targets in Kosovo and Serbia. The attacks started on March 24, 1999 and ended on June 10, with the aim of stopping the campaign of ethnic cleansing against Kosovo Albanians.
The end of the bombing and the Kumanovo Agreement brought the withdrawal of Serbian forces and the return of over a million Albanians to their homeland. In the 27 years that followed, Kosovo has been supported by NATO’s peacekeeping mission, with hundreds of thousands of international troops contributing to security and stability.
Their contribution is considered crucial for maintaining peace and stability in Kosovo.
