Public broadcaster BR24 reported on its website that operations at the Bavarian airport were interrupted shortly after 8:30 p.m. CET. The cause of the smell is now being investigated by the airport firefighters, the station said, adding that all personnel had to leave the control tower and that it is not possible to handle departures and arrivals.
According to the airport’s statement, planes heading to Munich are now being diverted to alternative landing sites, for example to Stuttgart.
According to DPA, it is not currently clear what exactly happened at the airport tower, but according to the agency, no one noticed flames or open fire.
Operations at the Bavarian airport were last interrupted on May 30 of this year. It happened because of a drone near him.
