Scheinost’s death was announced on Facebook by his daughter Alena with a link to the website of the Institute for Criminology and Social Prevention.
“From the series ‘News we never want to have to report, but can’t avoid it.’ Thank you to everyone who remembers dad and who comes to say goodbye. Thank you also for respecting our deep pain: you know me – the fewer words, the better,” Scheinostová wrote in a post on her profile on Thursday.
“Love your loved ones and be together while you are together. It can come completely unexpectedly,” the daughter of the renowned expert indicated that it was a sudden death.
Scheinost joined IKSP in 1990 as a researcher. In the nineties of the last century, he was the deputy director of the institute, and from 2000 he led it himself as the head for twenty years. He continued to work at the institute even after finishing his post.
“He contributed significantly to maintaining the existence of one of the oldest criminological research institutes in Europe even in difficult times. He made a fundamental contribution to the all-round development of IKSP and criminology as an independent scientific discipline in the Czech Republic when, among other things, he was a member of the preparatory committee and the first chairman of the Czech Criminological Society, founded in 2012,” the institute said on its website.
He added that in Scheinost, the office is losing not only a generally respected colleague, but above all a kind friend, a funny companion, a respected teacher and a kind person with deep personal and professional integrity.
Following an agreement with the family, the public will be able to say goodbye to him on Wednesday, June 10 from 2:15 p.m. at the Motol Crematorium in Prague.
