World Turkish Coffee Day was Celebrated in the Balkans

Turkish coffee was introduced in the Balkan countries North Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania on the occasion of World Turkish Coffee Day on December 5.

Many guests attended the event held at the residence of the Turkish Embassy in Skopje, the capital of North Macedonia.

In his speech at the event, Temporary Charge d’Affaires of the Skopje Embassy, ​​Cüneyt Talha Özyürek, said that tourists coming to Turkey from the Balkans and different parts of the world do not return to their countries without tasting Turkish coffee.

“Turkish coffee is an opportunity to come together with family, friends and loved ones,” said Özyürek, adding, “The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) added Turkish coffee to the Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2013, adding a cultural element to the list for the first time.” “Turkish coffee is much more than just a beverage for us; it constitutes an integral part of our culture and future.” he said.

On the other hand, events related to Turkish coffee were organized by Yunus Emre Institutes in the cities of Pristina, Prizren, Ipek in Kosovo and Shkodra in Albania.

During the events, the history of Turkish coffee was explained to the guests, Turkish coffee cooked in sand, Turkish delight and various treats were served.

Turkish coffee was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2013, and December 5 was celebrated as “World Turkish Coffee Day”.
