The majority, which is already smaller than after the previous election in 2022, when the Republicans had 222 seats, will probably decrease by three more, because Trump nominated three elected Republicans to his government – Elise Stefanikova, Mike Waltz and Matt Gaetz.
Gaetz has already resigned from his post in the Chamber of Deputies, and although he has since resigned from the selection of a new Minister of Justice, according to his statement, he will not sit in the newly elected lower chamber, which will meet for the first time in January. It is expected that Stefanikova and Waltz will also give up their mandates.

When a post in the House of Representatives becomes vacant, by-elections will be held in the given district, but the whole process can sometimes take several months.
Republicans will also have control over the Senate, with a ratio of 53 to 47.
