Vojtěch Adam, former KSČM deputy, died

“Vojtěch Adam dedicated his life to serving people — as a doctor and hospital director, later as the mayor of Ivančic, and finally as a member of parliament who devoted himself to health issues and social issues for a long time. His work was always associated with personal modesty, a calm demeanor and deep respect for the people he worked for,” wrote Konečná in a post on her Facebook profile on Saturday afternoon.

Konečná recalled Adam’s career in his native Ivančice. First as a doctor, later as director of the local hospital, and above all as a long-time mayor of a South Moravian city and a member of parliament – a non-party member of the KSČM. But Adam was also a member of the Communist Party between 1976 and 1992.

“In Ivančice, he was known as a person who never refused help. As a doctor, he won the trust of generations of patients, as mayor he contributed to the development of the city and as a member of parliament, he advocated for more accessible and better health care. His colleagues describe him as an honest, hard-working man who was able to combine professional knowledge with a human approach,” said the head of the KSČM, who as the leader of Stačilo! it did not succeed, just like this whole movement, in the October parliamentary elections.

“His passing means a great loss for family, friends, patients and the entire community of Ivančice. Vojta, it was an honor to be your colleague. Thank you for everything you have done for the citizens and the KSČM. Honor to your memory,” Konečná added.

Adam was born on September 12, 1950 in South Moravian Ivančice. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně in Brno, then served as a surgeon in the hospital in Ivančice Domov or the polyclinic in Židlochovice. Before the revolution, he led the Ivančić hospital as a director, then worked in surgery there until 2002.

In the same year, he became the mayor of his hometown, holding the position for 12 years until 2014. Before that, he was also a representative of Ivančice for many years, first as a non-party member for the ČSSD, then for the KSČM. He was also a South Moravian regional representative for 12 years.

He entered the House of Representatives as a non-party representative of the KSČM for the South Moravian Region in October 2008, when he replaced Marta Bayerová, who became a senator and gave up her parliamentary mandate. Adam’s lasted until 2017, when he did not run for the next election.

Vojtěch Adam also met his son Petr Adam, who was a non-party member of parliament for Tomio Okamura’s Dawn of Direct Democracy movement between 2013 and 2017, in the parliamentary benches.

“On behalf of the whole family, we thank you for this very nice farewell. I personally thank Kateřina Konečná. He fought like a lion, but some battles cannot be won. Dad would be really happy and proud…” wrote son Petr Adam in a comment under the post of the head of the KSČM.
