Two years after the Banjska attack, Kosovo seeks pressure on Serbia for Radoicic and justice for Bunjaku

As the Serbian attack and the killing of officer Afrim Bunjaku were two years old, Kosovo’s leaders called on the international community to pressure Serbia for the surrender of Milan Radoicic and others involved in the attack.

On September 24, 2023, in the village of Banjska in Zvecan, Bunjaku was killed during an attack organized by a group of armed Serbs. Despite Radoicic’s responsibility for the attack, he continues to live freely in Belgrade, without being punished by Serbian authorities.

Kosovo’s acting prime minister, Albin Kurti, stressed during the homage to Bunjaku’s tomb that Serbia cannot be considered a normal state without submitting the criminals involved in this terrorist act.

Kosovo has filed indictments against 45 people for the Banjska attack, but only three of them are being tried, while others remain inaccessible to the Kosovo authorities.

Kurti demands that all the accused be handed over immediately, stressing that Bunjak’s fall was a sacrifice that strengthened Kosovo’s sovereignty and reputation. Serbia continues to refuse extradition, saying the accused will be tried in their country.

The German Embassy in Pristina calls it unacceptable that after two years, the main author of the attack will live free and requires rapid justice without delay. The United States and the European Union have also sought concrete actions from Serbia.
