Digital transformation in Albania and throughout the Western Balkans region is not just a demand of the time, but also a necessity in the process of European integration.
To advance this process, representatives of the governments of the six countries in the region gathered in Skopje at the Western Balkans Digital Summit.
The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), which coordinates the process, considers one of the most important steps to remove roaming tariffs between countries in the region, but also their significant reduction with EU countries.
“Using internet data from the phone increased by 495% just six months after introducing this initiative. This is a great result because it is very vulnerable to our citizens and businesses,“Said Amer Kanetanovic, Secretary General of RCC.
Albania brought its experience in the digitization of public services.
“AKSHI is working to launch ‘e-Albania 2’, a platform that will reduce the time of delivery of digital services, which aims to be proactive, where services are also proposed, and provided in a shorter time,”Stated the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj.
Meanwhile the new projects discussed at the summit are regional digital portfolio, cyber security, expanding fiber optic networks and support for startups and digital innovation.
“Digital innovation is something we are working hard, especially with young entrepreneurs and startups. We want to create an innovation fund for the Western Balkans, from which new ideas and startups will be funded,Mr. Kapetanovic said.
The purpose of these initiatives is to approach the Western Balkans with the only digital market of the European Union and the preparation of citizens and businesses for the new technological era.
