The Kyiv Post reported that before the missile attack, the Russians demonstrated the training of military personnel for attack and defense to “guests” from the DPRK.
“A number of Russian Telegram channels wrote that they (DPRK soldiers) were shown how the Russians were preparing for offensive actions, for defense, when a missile attack was carried out on the training ground,” Interfax said, citing sources from the Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR). It is not clear when exactly the attack took place.
HUR announced the arrival of a limited military contingent from North Korea already last year, when military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK intensified. They moved on temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory. The main part of the contingent were engineers.
In September 2023, it became clear that the Russians, who began buying North Korean ammunition in large quantities, plan to bring North Korean citizens to the occupied parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions for construction work. According to the website, they want to ensure the supply of labor to the mentioned regions. The war thinned their numbers there as well as throughout Russia.
In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June of this year, convinced his counterpart from Pyongyang to open “diplomatic missions” in Donetsk and Luhansk, which Russia considers part of its territory after manipulated referendums.
