A bear attacked a mushroom picker in Slovakia. The man bled to death on the spot

During the attack, the bear hit one of the main arteries of the lower limb, as a result of which there was massive bleeding and a stoppage of circulation. Despite the best efforts of the rescuers, the sixty-three-year-old man died on the spot, said Zuzana Hopjaková, spokeswoman for the air rescue service.

As reported by the Žilina police on Facebook, the man was in the hard-to-reach forest growing on mushrooms together with another person. “The 55-year-old man suffered injuries from which he succumbed,” the Žilina police said.

A police patrol and an emergency team were immediately sent to the scene to search for the beast that attacked the man.

The last death after a bear attack occurred in Slovakia in April this year, when the beast chased a couple from Belarus in the Demänovská valley in the Low Tatras. A 31-year-old woman died while running away from the beast, who fell into a ravine and was fatally injured.

The brown bear population in Slovakia is estimated at almost 1,300 individuals. After repeated clashes between this animal and man, members of the Slovak Parliament approved the possibility of simplified shooting of bears in May.
