The head of the Vetëvendosje Movement and at the same time the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that the opposition parties are only interested in a political blockade and not in a concrete solution for the election of the country’s new president.
During a conference for the media, after the absence three times in a row of the opposition MPs in the extraordinary sessions of the Assembly for the election of the head of state, Kurti said that “this entire blockade cannot be called anything other than ignorance of the election result, clearly expressed on December 28, as never before.”
“It has become clear that the opposition has no other goal than blocking. She is interested in blocking our government. In these circumstances, this whole blockade cannot be called anything other than ignorance of the election result, clearly expressed on December 28, like never before”. Kurt said.
He added that another clear evidence of this resistance is the complete mobilization of the opposition, including the Serbian List, against the revision of the budget for the economic package in favor of the citizens, while for the issue of the President they do not even appear in the hall.
“The country does not need political blockades, as happened during the last 10 months. With complete confidence that there is no need for new elections, we would lose another 10 million euros to the country just for their organization, not counting tens of millions more from other agreements. We have made every effort not to go to repeated and unnecessary elections“, he emphasized.
Kurti said that he was the one who offered concrete solutions, including proposals for the President, which were rejected by the opposition parties.
“Neither PDK nor LDK have enough deputies to propose their candidate. LDK can propose half a candidate, since it has 15 MPs, while 30 are needed. PDK can propose 2/3 of a candidate with 22 MPs. Both together can propose a candidate. We told them: let’s get together, propose three candidates – you names, we support in the plenary session. No proposal. We pushed the deadline to give them extra time, but it was rejected again“, declared Kurti.
According to him, if no agreement is reached, the country risks entering a cycle of consecutive elections, which would bring high economic and institutional costs for Kosovo.
