In a direct statement to the media, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, presented the name of Professor Justina Shiroka Pula as a candidate for the position of President of the Republic. The proposal comes as a last-minute effort to avoid the failure of the process and going to early elections.
“Less than two hours before the expiration of the constitutional deadline, the prime minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that he proposes that Justina Shiroka Pulën be a candidate for president,” Kurti declared.
During his speech, Kurti analyzed and responded publicly to the positions of the chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, who had rejected the previous candidacies of Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushit with the claim of political profiling.
“Mayor Hamza also rejected Glauk Konjufca and Feride Rushiti, with the claim that they are politicians, therefore unacceptable. Meanwhile, to the journalist’s question: ‘Feride Rushiti does not have a Vetëvendosje card, why is it not acceptable for you?’, Mayor Bedri Hamza said: ‘I don’t know if she has the booklet, I think she is Vetëvendosje’.” Kurti quoted from the statement of the head of the PDK.
Proposed formula, two-point hearing and vote commitment
The Prime Minister presented a new procedural formula, according to which the Vetëvendosje Movement would vote in the second reading of the draft law on the Special Court, provided that the PDK parliamentary group participates in the voting of the new president.
“It means a session with two points: the first point, the second reading of the draft law on the Special Court has our vote. And then, the vote for president of Professor Justina Shiroka Pula from the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Kosovo, former PDK minister in the Thaçi 1 Government,” Kurti declared.
At the end of the statement, Kurti asked the chairman of the PDK to come out publicly and pledge for the presence of 22 opposition MPs in the joint voting session.
“Justina Shiroka Pula would be accepted by the majority, from Vetëvendosja with 53 deputies as we are and a total of 62 minorities. Just let the chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, come out after this conference that I am holding here, and let him declare, publicly pledging that he himself, the 22nd, continues to stand for the second point of the same session: the voting of the new president of the Republic,” concluded Prime Minister Kurti.
