The Danube in Bratislava overthrew the flow of the Moravia, which overflows its banks

The third level of flood activity was declared in the Slovak capital. Heavy water has limited some tram, trolleybus and bus lines in the city, in many places firefighters are removing fallen trees.

Bratislava is protected by a mobile flood barrier.

Below Devín Castle in the Bratislava district of the same name, the Morava River flows into the Danube and basically two flood waves meet here. The pressure of the increased level of the Danube is so strong that it pushes the water in the opposite direction. Reversal of the flow of the Morava occurs relatively commonly during increased flow at the confluence of the Morava and the Danube under Devín. The stronger current of the Danube pushes the flow of the Morava in the opposite direction for several tens of meters, where the smaller river then overflows its banks.

As a result of the high level of the Morava and Danube rivers, the urban part of Devín is cut off from the city. Both access roads to Devín were under water on Monday afternoon. Devínská cesta has been impassable since Saturday, and on Monday, water also flooded the road from Devínská Nová Ves. The chairman of the Bratislava self-governing region, Juraj Dropa, confirmed that the supply of the residents of Devín is ensured by army vehicles.
