(ANKARA) – Applications for the 2024 EU Investigative Journalism Award have begun. The award, which journalists from Turkey and the Western Balkan countries can apply for, aims to “recognize, promote and encourage the outstanding achievements of investigative journalists, as well as increase the visibility of quality journalism” within the scope of the “Strengthening the Quality of Journalism and Independent Journalism in the Western Balkans and Turkey II” project.
In addition to the 2024 EU Investigative Journalism Award, the EU also organises a “regional achievement award” for the best investigative journalism covering the region in question, which is being held for the second time this year.
The award, which is also held in Turkey as well as other project stakeholders Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia and North Macedonia, is given to the most important investigative journalism news of the previous year. There is a prize fund of 10,000 euros for the national and regional awards. In both national and regional award categories, the first place winner will receive 5,000 euros, the second place winner 3,000 euros and the third place winner 2,000 euros. Applicants can apply for “national competition only”, “regional competition only” or “both categories”. Each candidate can apply with a maximum of 3 news items.
This year, national jury members will be able to nominate in this category, on their own initiative, news stories that they believe have a regional impact among those participating in the national competition, even if no regional award applications have been submitted. The deadline for both awards is Thursday, June 13.
