The US Ambassador to NATO, Matthew Whitaker, today held a meeting in Belgrade with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, which the US Embassy in Serbia described as “a constructive meeting for the launch of a new era” in the relations between the two countries.
In its statement, the Embassy noted Serbia’s role in regional stability and announced that a joint exercise between Serbia and NATO will take place in May.
However, Ambassador Whitaker warned that Serbia’s defense and security cooperation with unreliable partners creates long-term strategic dependencies that are difficult to dismantle and complicate future cooperation.
“For a modern and visionary partnership, Serbia’s strategic direction must be in line with the West. Security depends on choosing the right partners,” emphasized the Embassy in its post on the X platform.
