After warning Albanian law students to protest on May 18, the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski, stated that their request to enter the bar exam in the Albanian language would be resolved “soon”.
He called on the students to be patient, stressing that the government is working on a proposal that will be in line with the recommendations of the Venice Commission and international standards.
“I am convinced that very soon we will come up with a proposal-solution. I ask all those who are part of this process to be patient, because there are political forces in the state that do not want reforms, but want riots and protests. They have had the opportunity for more than 20 years to solve this issue”Mickoski said.
The Prime Minister accused the opposition of being behind the student protests, calling them attempts to create tension in the country.
He reiterated that government working groups are preparing a draft law, which will then be sent to the Venice Commission for consideration.
“We are a government committed to solving issues and I am convinced that we will soon come up with a solution”he added.
Albanian students do not agree with the government’s interpretations and insist that the existing laws give them the right to enter the exam in the Albanian language.
They say they will continue the protests until a concrete solution is provided.
