The reports come from last November and related to operations near Myrnohrad in the Donetsk region. They indicate that the troops faced poor supplies and critical food shortages. According to one of the officers, a soldier with the call sign “Lame” (Lame), who served in the 95th Regiment, killed his two comrades and tried to eat parts of their bodies, writes The Sunday Times website.
“Long story short, one killed two others and tried to eat parts of their bodies. He cut off one’s leg. He had something like a meat grinder in the basement where he was trying to grind the meat,” the officer described. The soldier was eventually neutralized when he was discovered.
The officer sent Razikov photos not only of an emaciated soldier who resorted to cannibalism, but also of a severed leg that he tried to eat, writes The New Voice of Ukraine website.
An analysis by The Sunday Times found that the images were not created by artificial intelligence or modified in any way. An independent military surgeon told the newspaper that the injuries in the photo were most likely not caused in battle. “It looks like it was caused by a very sharp knife,” said the surgeon.
You don’t feed them?
“I don’t understand. You don’t feed them,” Razikov asked when he saw a picture of an emaciated soldier. “Soon we’ll start eating each other. Everyone here is hungry, we have very meager rations,” replied the officer.
It is not the first case of cannibalism during the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In April last year, a soldier with the call sign Most complained to his commander that one of his colleagues “eats human flesh”.
Last October, the commander of the 1437th Motorized Rifle Regiment accused a subordinate soldier of the same act and demanded that he stop “eating people”. In another report, the Chief of Staff of the 55th Motorized Rifle Brigade issued an order expressly prohibiting cannibalism along with the use of drugs and drinking alcohol.
