The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, declared in the extraordinary session of the Assembly of Kosovo that the failure in the election of the President of the Republic leads the country to new parliamentary elections.
Kurti emphasized that the opposition saw the compromise as submission to the winner of the elections.
According to him, the political agreement and compromise between the parties for the ruling coalition is the most normal thing in democracy, but the compromise must be democratic.
“Political agreement and compromise between political parties for a governing coalition is the most normal thing in democracy. But compromise in a democracy must be democratic. Compromise is not a bargain made to please political figures.
The true compromise, the one that serves the citizens, is built on two non-negotiable pillars, firstly on respect for the results of the elections and secondly on the institutional and democratic responsibility which derives from public commitment and from the fact that you are an elected representative of the people“, said Kurti.
The Prime Minister stated that during the meetings with the opposition, he was able to bring three names of candidates for president, but they did not bring any names.
He said that in the meetings they never mentioned any names, while he mentioned names, even of those parties, to make the conversation concrete.
Kurti emphasized that neither the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) with 22 MPs nor the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) with 15 MPs have received any initiative, proposal or candidate name for president. He added that so far they have not accepted any proposals from political entities. Prime Minister Kurti said that last year he made an offer to the governing LDK and he did the same today, offering four ministers and the first deputy prime minister.
“The LDK is doing the blockade last year and now, I have offered them co-governance. Not whatever offer I made to the first deputy prime minister and four ministers, that is, in my absence, the chairman of the LDK to lead the meetings of the Government. Let the LDK ask the popular parties in Europe that we have made this offer to and they have refused, let them know what will happen to them. Half of what I offered to the LDK was given to the GUXO party, so with the Guxo Party that we competed with, to the LDK, I gave twice as much.” Kurti pointed out.
According to Kurti, the purpose of last year’s blockade was to harm the winning entity, but it actually resulted in harming the citizens and the state.
