Skiing in Italy: the best ski areas for children

When skiing in Italy, mainly the Dolomites. However, other resorts in South Tyrol and the Trentino-Alto Adige region are not to be thrown away either. The journey here takes around seven to eight hours, the reward is very frequent sunny weather, popular Italian cuisine and for adults the famous bombardino. Madonna di Campiglio

The Campiglio ski area in the Dolomiti di Brenta mountains unites the resorts of Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo and Folgarida Marilleva. This largest ski area in the Trentino region offers activities for all levels of skiers, including families with children.

In Madonna di Campiglio, in addition to the skiing school, there is also a mini snowpark for children, where they can safely try freestyle. In the neighboring center of Folgarida Marilleva, there is a family park with animation programs or snow tubing and a large games room under the roof, complete with security.

Val Gardena

The main resort in the Dolomites, Gröden in German, is large enough for both families with children and seasoned competitors to enjoy. The longest ski slope in South Tyrol called La Longia, 10 kilometers long, can also be found here.

The resort has long been ranked as the best in Italy in the prestigious World Ski Awards competition. The local environment is unforgettable with the sharp three-thousand-thousand-thousand-thousand-thousand-meter tower peaks of Sassolungo and Sasso Piatto, made of light stone similar to limestone.

Val Gardena is part of the Dolomiti Superski, the world’s largest ski destination with 12 resorts, where you can ski 1,200 kilometers of pistes with one ski pass. It is directly connected to the Seiser Alm resort, the ski pass is valid in both. You can stay in the villages of Selva, Santa Cristina and Ortisei.

Where to go skiing in Austria

Seiser Alm

In addition to the more widespread German name, this South Tyrolean resort also has the Italian name Alpe di Suisi. The peaceful area is closely connected with Val Gardena, with a common ski pass. It has the form of a vast alpine meadow, as if created for teaching beginner skiers. The magical atmosphere is enhanced by the widely spread mountain pastures and sharp Dolomite peaks in the background. Cross-country skiers will also enjoy themselves here.

The largest resorts in the Giant Mountains

The highest Czech mountains offer prominent areas and top racing slopes, but also quiet resorts for families with children.

Folgaria Lavarone – Alpe Cimbra

The Alpe Cimbra ski resort, spread over the hills of the same name in Trentino, connects the neighboring areas of Folgaria and Lavarone. Although it is universal, it is mainly suitable for beginners. The currency for calming the nerves is the wide views here. One-day ski passes are priced differently for the weekend and the weekday, while the prices are very favorable.

Four ski schools and a snowboard academy operate here for teaching. Parents who want to go skiing themselves can have their offspring looked after at a children’s centre. Families and children themselves can otherwise enjoy the children’s park with snow tubing, funny mascots, a place for sledding, or different animation programs every day.

Alta Badia

Another part of the Dolomiti Superski and at the same time the Sellaronda ski circuit lies between Cortina d’Ampezzo and Val Gardena. The lightest blue pistes predominate here, which indicates the friendliness of less experienced athletes.

Almost all villages in the area offer children’s lifts and slopes, as well as ski schools. There are also several fun slopes, some of which are specially adapted for children. Many visitors praise the beautiful surroundings, but some point to the higher prices and more people of the cable cars falling within the Sellaronda circuit.

The energy crisis also affects skiers

In the past few days, a helicopter has collected snow cannons from the highest passages of the slopes of San Martina di Castrozza. It was essentially the only measure here related to the energy crisis.

Gitschberg Jochtal – Brixen

Near Havlíčkovo Brixen there is a medium-sized resort, the largest of those in the Eisacktal and Wipptal valleys in South Tyrol. Little skiers will enjoy the two children’s parks in the village of Meransen and at the exit of the Nesselbahn cable car, as well as the Gimmy Fun Ride. They can also register for the ski school. The whole family can try one of the four toboggan runs.

If that’s not enough, you can try other resorts in the Dolomites with the Dolomiti Superski ski pass. You can diversify your experience with a stop at one of the two panoramic viewing platforms Steinermandl and Gitchberg at heights of 2100 and 2500 meters above sea level. The slopes themselves offer beautiful views, especially the descent from the Gitschberg mountain.

Ponte di Legno – Tonale

The complex, consisting of four different resorts, offers a really wide range of altitudes – there is a difference of 2000 meters between the highest and the lowest point. The highest point is located at an altitude of 3016 meters and you can ski here on a glacier between rocks. For a nice price, you can also enjoy the slopes lined with pine forests or the panoramic slopes in open terrain.

In Passo Tonale there is a paid children’s amusement park Fantaski, where you can enjoy not only fun skiing, but also bouncy castles, snow tubing, toboggans, sledding or workshops. Guarding also works here.
