Cyclone-force winds were recorded in some areas, including Cape Naturaliste 190 kilometers southwest of Perth, where gusts reached 135 kilometers per hour. According to meteorologists, this is a May record for this area. The energy company Western Power tried to restore electricity supplies to 69,000 customers who are without power in Western Australia. The rescue service received almost 700 requests for help.
One building in Perth lost its roof, which damaged nearby houses. The authorities urged the locals to stay at home because of the wind, which may carry away roofing and rubble. There are reports of downed trees, power lines and debris on the roads from the mentioned city as well as from the south and west coasts. In several areas of the state, warnings against storms, floods or rough waves remain in force.
The weather also affected four flights, which had to be diverted to the Kalgoorlie-Boulder airport, approximately 545 kilometers to the northeast, due to strong winds at the airport in Perth.
