A nationwide protest in support of former Kosovo Liberation Army commanders being tried in The Hague will take place on October 17, at 17:00, at Skanderbeg Square in Tirana.
The leader of the KLA War Veterans Organization, Hysni Gucati, said the rally has received widespread dimensions and great support from Albanian institutions, political parties and citizens from all territories.
“The protest is not against the court or justice, but against the injustice that has been happening in The Hague for five years. We have great support from the citizens of Albania, the government, institutions and Albanian political parties,” Gucati said.
He announced that important political figures from Albania and Kosovo will be attended by the rally, among them Prime Minister Edi Rama, former President Alfred Moisiu and DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, who are expected to hold occasions.
“It will be former Albanian President Alfred Moisiu will receive the word. DUI President Ali Ahmeti will take the floor as the organizer of the protest in Tirana. October 17, ”Gucati added.
According to him, support has also come from university rectors, “Red and Black” fans, as well as many citizens and associations in Kosovo. PDK, AAK, Pristina Mayor Perparim Rama and some deputies of the Kosovo Assembly were also supported by the protest.
“We have been supported by the” Red and Black “fans in Albania. Only from Kosovo to date we have 60 buses confirmed by our three associations; of invalids, martyrs and veterans we are organizing. We thank the mayors that have enabled us to transport because we have not had our vehicles,” Gucati said.
According to the organizers, the purpose of the rally is to express solidarity with former KLA crows facing international justice, and opposing what they consider injustice in the Hague litigation.
The day before, Prime Minister Edi Rama joined the call of organizers for a nationwide rally in Tirana, with the aim of requesting justice for former KLAs.
For five years Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi are in Detention in The Hague, who are charged with war crimes during the Kosovo war. Former President Thaçi and his comrades have denied all the charges, while the gathering in Tirana comes after similar protests recently held in Pristina and The Hague.
