LVV against Serbian List certification appeals to court to stop its participation in the October 12 elections

Members of the Vetevendosje Movement (LVV) have appealed to the Supreme Court against the decision of the Electoral Panel on Appeals and submissions ordering the certification of the Serbian List for the October local elections.

They were the only ones in the Central Election Commission that voted against the certification of this party, which they call “Vucic’s extended hand in Kosovo”. According to them, most of the Serbian List candidates are involved in Serbia’s parallel structures in Kosovo.

Kurteshi stated that “90 percent of candidates are members of illegal Serbian institutions”. He also opposed Sasha Milosevic’s candidacy for mayor of Novobërda, saying he was appointed by Belgrade as a parallel president in Gjilan.

Vetevendosje has previously opposed the certification of this party, but without success in the highest instances.

The decision to not certify it has been criticized by the Quint countries and the European Union, which require not to prevent its participation. The office of political parties at the CEC had recommended its certification, but the debate continues.

The Serbian List denies the allegations and considers the process as an attempt to exclude Serbs from democracy. In the last parliamentary elections, she had won 9 seats after appealing to court.

This year, the Serbian List returns to local elections after boycotting them in 2023. If certified, it is expected to restore control in the four Serb -majority municipalities in the north.
