Kurti: New elections are not a solution, the opposition parties should reflect

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that holding new elections would not bring a solution to the political crisis in the country, calling on the opposition parties to reflect on the election of the new president.

Kurti emphasized that the country risks entering an endless cycle of elections, without producing a concrete solution.

“If we go to new elections, at least 10 million euros will go to their organization. But we will have no choice, because we may end up in other elections again”, he expressed.

According to Kurti, it is imperative that the political parties reach an agreement to avoid financial and institutional costs for the state.

He said that the Vetëvendosje Movement has made continuous efforts to compromise, first proposing the name of Glauk Konjufca and then that of Fatmire Mullhaxha Kollçaku for the post of president.

Kurti added that he has held meetings with the Democratic League of Kosovo, while according to him the Democratic Party of Kosovo has refused cooperation. He also revealed that LDK has been offered co-governance and important positions, but the offers have been rejected.

In his statement, Kurti also defended the figure of Albulena Haxhiu, stressing that she has proven herself as a worthy leader, despite earlier criticisms.

The head of the government accused the opposition of blocking the process and emphasized that this situation is causing damage to the state, both in time and in the budget.

He underlined that the opposition does not have enough numbers to single-handedly propose a candidate for president, but invited them to unite and propose a consensual name, even outside the political scene.

Meanwhile, the deadline set by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo for the election of the president is approaching, with only five days left. If no agreement is reached, the country is expected to automatically go to new elections.
