Kurti invites PDK and LDK: Propose three unifying figures for President, we attract our candidates

The Prime Minister of Kosovo and the leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), Albin Kurti, has made a public call to the two main opposition parties, the PDK and the LDK, to find a solution to the issue of electing the country’s new President. During a statement to the media after the ceremony for the Korishë-Kabash road, Kurti asked the opposition to propose three personalities outside the current political scene, guaranteeing the support of his subject.

According to the head of the government, PDK and LDK, as the oldest parties in the country, have the necessary capacity and knowledge to identify senior and contributing figures in Kosovar society.

Proposal for institutional unlocking

Prime Minister Kurti proposed a cooperation formula where VV, PDK and LDK secure the necessary signatures for three candidates proposed exclusively by the opposition.

“We are saying that none of these three candidates should be proposed by Vetëvendosje. Let them be three unifying personalities of two parties older than us. In this way, we will unblock the situation and have institutional stability”. Kurti declared.

As a condition for this agreement, Kurti confirmed that the two current LVV candidates, Glauk Konjufca and Fatmire Mullhaxha Kollçaku, would withdraw from the race immediately after the formalization of the opposition proposals.

The cost of new elections

The leader of the LVV argued that the country does not need another election process, which, in addition to delays, would burden the state budget.

“Even a pair of new elections will cost us at least 10 million euros for their organization and tens of millions more that would be funding from the international community”he added, calling for political prudence in the service of stability.

For the Prime Minister, the solution should be sought in people who have proven themselves in the academy, university and those who have sacrificed for the country, seeing these figures as an opportunity to represent the unity of the people without getting involved in party rivalries.
