Kurti from London: Kosovo ready to receive asylum seekers rejected by the United Kingdom

Kosovo has expressed its willingness to accept asylum seekers rejected by the United Kingdom, as part of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s plan to create “return centers” for migrants.

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, during the summit of the leaders of the Western Balkans in London, stated that his country is holding talks with the British authorities to examine how to implement this plan. He emphasized that Prishtina sees this as a friendly and political act towards London, while in return it seeks increased support for national security in the face of threats from Serbia and Russia.

“We want to help the United Kingdom. We consider this a friendly and political task. We have limited capacity, but we are ready to contribute. We are currently developing regular communication between our teams of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and lawyers to see how we can achieve this smoothly and for mutual benefit,” said Kurti.

He added that Kosovo expects support from Britain in the form of security equipment and intelligence exchange, to face regional threats.

“Mainly we would like security support either through strategic agreements or through equipment and projects that we can carry out. Our two teams are working on this and I believe there will be a successful outcome,” he underlined.

Kurti also emphasized that Kosovo’s offer to accept migrants is a way of returning gratitude to the United Kingdom, which helped Kosovo during the peacekeeping intervention against Slobodan Milosevic’s regime in the late 90s.

“You helped us a lot and we will never forget that,” Kurti concluded.
