Kurti did not secure a coalition, Krasniqi: The time for words is over. Abdixhiku: We don’t want a debate, measure yourself with votes

The acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has stated that he has not managed to secure an agreement for a coalition, while the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) have made it clear that they will not vote for the new government presented by him.

The representative of the PDK in the Assembly, Memli Krasniqi, said that the session called for voting on the new government turned into an exposition on the work of the previous government, calling it an imaginary text and accusing Vetëvendosje of institutional deadlock for more than eight months.

“We have been blocked for over 8 months by the arbitrary behavior of the party that won the majority of votes. The time for words is over. Mr. Kurti, put the new government to the vote,” he said.

The chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, severely criticized the way the session was handled, stressing that the representative admitted from the beginning that there is no majority, while adding that the lack of transparency and political dignity has led to repeated violations of the Constitution.

“The LDK does not see any meaning in the debate, when the representative admits that he does not have the numbers. We are not here for an ordinary law, but to vote for a government. Any other reasoning is submission to new extraordinary elections,” said Abdixhiku.

In the absence of a parliamentary majority, the country risks going to new elections, while the institutional structures remain blocked. The President of Kosovo is expected to take the next steps in accordance with the Constitution.
