Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, signed this Saturday, October 11, the decree on Albin Kurti’s mandate in the formation of the new government.
The press release states that the decision was taken after the official proposal of the Vetevendosje Movement Party, which has won the largest number of seats in the Assembly, according to the results of the elections held on February 9 this year.
“According to the Constitution, the mandate for the formation of the Government, Mr. Kurti, is obliged to submit the composition and government program for approval to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo no later than fifteen (15) days from the decree,” reads the press release of the President.
Osman has wished Kurti success, where he adds that “The Republic of Kosovo should have a government with full constitutional mandate as soon as possible ”.
This decision comes a day after the constitution of the Assembly of Kosovo, which ended an institutional stalemate of 8 months.
Since the February 9th elections, the Vetevendosje Movement has received the largest number of seats in the Assembly, but not enough to form the government alone. It is now expected that political movements are seen to form the ruling coalition.
If the Vetevendosje Movement fails to form the new government, President Osmani, according to the Constitution, must declare new elections.
