In the USA, a plane crashed into an industrial complex. At least seven dead

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the UPS McDonnell-Douglas MD-11 crashed on Tuesday around 17:15 (23:15 CET). After taking off from Muhammad Ali International Airport, the plane was supposed to go to Honolulu, Hawaii. The cause of the crash is currently unknown. The original data on the victims spoke of three dead and eleven injured, but the number of dead was already officially increased to seven.

Given that only three people were supposed to be on board the plane, it is clear that people on the ground also lost their lives in the crash. According to the governor, the plane hit Kentucky Petroleum Recycling “fairly directly” and a nearby auto parts business is also affected. The nearby plant of the Ford Motor company then lost power supplies, even though the plane did not directly hit it.

A huge fire broke out on the spot.

The AP agency published footage of the crash. They show, among other things, how the plane exploded after hitting the ground. A fire broke out on the spot and a large cloud of smoke could be seen rising on another video. The American channel CNN stated in its online broadcast that hundreds of firefighters are fighting the fire, and they have almost managed to get it under control.

The police called on the public not to approach the place, and the authorities appealed to people from the surrounding area to seek shelter. “It’s still a very dangerous situation with various flammable or potentially explosive materials,” Beshear said. According to Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg, the concern is fuel from the plane.

CNN further wrote that a group of at least 28 people from the US National Security Agency is heading to the site to lead the investigation into the plane disaster.

The airport in Louisville is home to UPS Worldport, the global center for air cargo transportation of this American shipping company, Reuters noted. According to the AP agency, the center employs thousands of workers and equips 300 flights a day.
