Hurricane Kirk is heading for Europe, bringing wind and downpours

On Wednesday, Kirk will reach European shores as an extratropical storm. The exact place of the strike is not yet clear, writes the website of the weekly Focus. “Originally it looked like it would reach over Central Europe, current models expect that France will be hit, near the mouth of the Loire River. Kirk should run amok in Germany as well,” meteorologist Dagmar Honsová told Novinka.

According to her, the remnants of Hurricane Kirk will ensure that in the Czech Republic it should rain in the second half of next week and the wind will be fresh, with gusts of around 55 km/h.

In Germany, however, he will take care of stormy weather conditions. On the coast of Europe, there is a risk of extremely heavy rainfall, which could reach up to 300 liters per square meter, strong winds, and even tornadoes. Intense rain may spread further inland.

The core of Hurricane Kirk is expected to move across northern France, the Benelux states, northern Germany and Denmark. In the southern part of the core, the storm will be particularly strong. Metrologists warn that Germany may be hit by a particularly violent storm on Wednesday and Thursday next week. The exact route and strength of the storm may still change.

According to SkyNews, British meteorologists expect that the edge of the hurricane will bring snow to the islands in addition to wind, rain and a drop in temperature.

Due to the rising water temperatures, the energy for the formation of hurricanes will also increase and their lifespan will also be extended. The influence on the weather in Europe is mainly those tropical storms that head north from the Caribbean Sea along the coast of the United States and, after weakening, turn into a normal depression over the North Atlantic.

“Weather can therefore affect the so-called exhuricans. If they reach central Europe as a low pressure, they will bring rainy and windy weather. If the ex-hurricane stops over north-western or western Europe, warmer air will usually penetrate into central Europe around it,” said Honsová.
